Our Major Modernisation Project

Cappawhite National School is 104 years old. This imposing building has served the parish and catchment area well. However, times move on. Advances in educational requirements demand that the school will be capable of meeting the needs of pupils, teachers and parents, both in the modern age and for future generations. We are , therefore, delighted to announce that Cappawhite National School has been sanctioned for a new extension and refurbishment programme.

The New Extension

The new extension will consist of 5 new classrooms, each with adjoining toilets,cloakrooms and wet area. This new classroom block will be sited on the "Green" and will be linked to the present building by a new entrance lobby.

The refurbishment of the old school will consist of

*A General Purpose room/Assembly Hall. This facility will result from the conversion of two classrooms into one large room. the school will then have facilities for indoor physical education, drama and lunchtime shelter on wet days.

* A library/resource room

* Remedial room

*Staff room

*Multi- Purpose room

*Offices

*Store rooms

Acquisition of extra land

As the new building will be constructed on the "Green", the school will be losing a very substantial part of the playing area. The Board of Management in conjunction with the School Finance Committee have decided that it is essential to acquire some extra land adjoining the school, to provide adequate play and parking areas.

Finance

Now that the need for this major building project has been recognised as essential for this and future generations, the support and generosity of the local community is vital.

The entire cost of the project is £675,000. However, with contributions from the Department of Education, the Board of Management and Parish funds , the shortfall is £70,000.
