Lesson 1

Language Recognition.

Aims

  1. The children will recognize French as a modern European language.

  2. The children will learn the French terms for popular fruits.

  3. The children will develop basic word processing skills: launch of the word processing programme, altering font size, style, color, inserting pictures and printing.

 Materials : Samples of popular fruits/pictures of the same.

Flashcards
Printer.

Content / Methodology

Teacher introduces the children to the French names for fruits-

  • C’est une pomme

  • C’est un orange

  • C’est une poire

Individual children place the appropriate flashcard beside a chosen fruit.

Teacher mismatches flashcards and fruit. Individual children place flashcards with the appropriate fruit.

 Teacher asks, “Est-ce que c’est?”

 To elicit responses from children

  •  C’est une pomme

  •  C’est un orange

  •  C’est un banana

  •  C’est une poire.

 Teacher will demonstrate the launching of wordpad programme and typing eg “c’est une pomme”

Teacher will demonstrate the changing the font size, style and colour and the insertion of pictures and printing.

 Individual children will repeat this exercise under the teachers guidance.

Follow Up Activities

During the forthcoming week individual children will print their own document of their favorite fruit. These will be displayed in class.

Lesson 2

French Words

Aims

  1. The children will recognize French as a European language.

  2. The children will learn the French terms for the parts of the house.

  3. The children will develop their word processing skills; launch of the word processing programme, altering font size, style, colour, inserting pictures, printing.

Materials: Poster of house, Flashcards, Computer,Printer.

Content / Methodology

Teacher will introduce the children to the parts of the house using the poster and flashcards.

·       La maison

·       Le mur

·       Le toit

·       La cheminee

·       Le jardin

 Children following teachers direction will clap the rhythm of the words as they say them, to practice prononciation.

Teacher will jumble flashcards and individual children will place them in the correct position on the poster.

Individual children will ask their classmates to place a flashcard   where they instruct them.

Individual children will recall the process for the launch of the word processing programme.

Individual children will type La maison  under the teachers direction and others will change the font, size, style.

The children will recall the process for the insertion of a picture of a house.

Individual childrenwill labelparts of the house using their word processing skills & print the page.

Follow Up Activities

During the forthcoming week children will print their own pages which will be displayed in the classroom.

Lesson 3

French Words and Word Processing.

Aims

  • The children will recognize French as a Modern European language.

  • The children will learn the French terms for the rooms of a house.

  • The children will develop their word processing skills.

Materials : Poster of a house, Poster of a house interior, Computer, Printer, Flashcards

Content / Methodology

Teacher displays the poster of the house and the children recall the

French terms for the parts by placing the flashcards in the appropriate place.

Teacher displays poster of the house interior and teaches the French terms for the rooms using.

·       La cuisine

·       La chamber

·       Le salon

·       La sale de bains

Teacher asks children to place flashcards in the appropriate room following questioning

“Oui est-ce que la cuisine?” etc

Individual children ask their peers to point to the appropriate room following their instructions.

Individual children will recall the launch of the word processing programme and type the French term for a chosen room. The childrenwill use their WP skills to alter font, size, style, and insert pictures representing that room. The result will be printed and displayed in the classroom..

Lesson 4

Cloze Exercises

Aims

  1. The children will recognise French as a modern foreign language.

  2. The children will develop their word processing skills.

  3. The children will be able to complete a simple clozè procedure paragraph.

Materials : Flashcards, Computer Template saved in each child’s file on

Content / Methodology

Using flashcards and pictures, the teacher will revise vocabulary of ‘The house’ with the children.

Teacher will revise questions with the children about themselves

Teacher will demonstrate the opening of the template in each child’s file on the computer.

Teacher will demonstrate the completion of the paragraph

  • alter the appearance of the text.

  • completion of sentences

  • alter font size

  • add a heading and centre it

  • save the work
