BROSNA

The Fair day, Brosna

Brosna Fair started in 1853 and was a major business and social occasion. The local farmers came to sell their livestock and other produce. When their business was completed they met and socialised in the village pubs. The last fair held in Brosna was in the early 1900's

It is known as the birthplace of traditional Irish music, and the village of Brosna certainly lived up to its reputation when it hosted the Con Curtin Traditional Festival.

Enhancement programme to transform Brosna

The village of Brosna has recently become the subject of a five-year village enhancement work programme which is in association with Shannon Development.

The programme consist of an analysis of the entire village and suggestions on how the area can be enhanced to benefit the inhabitants and visitors.

Shannon Development explained that this programme would be phased over a five year period- 2001-2006. There are many suggestions made in a survey undertaken this April, it is up to the Locals to decide on what they want to be tackled first and they can then approach Kerry County Council for the funding.

Similar projects were undertaken in Ballyduff, Ballyheigue and Causeway.
