Community Information Office & Resource Centre

The Centre first opened in 1994. It was then staffed by two FAS employees from the Sliabh Luachra Office. It is now manned by personnel from our C.E. Scheme. The office is equipped   with 3 computers, photocopier, telephone/fax and is connected to the internet.

Advise on Grants/Funding from A.D.M. and LEADER 11 is available.                                 CV's and business plans can be had from the office.                                                                 Access to the internet is open to students.                                                                                 Information to business people and anyone wishing to gain Information.

Literature on Citizens Information, Social Welfare, Taxation, Health  matters, Benefits Housing and Education is all available from the office. Local farmers make use of the photocopier for payment of the Head age Grants. The students summer Job Scheme is administered from  the office. A Local Newsletter is also produced a number of times a year. The C.E. FAS Scheme and payroll is a part of the office workload.

The office is a huge benefit to the community being such a long distance from local towns it is necessary to have such facilities available locally. Without the help of FAS this would not be possible.                                                                                                                                   The office is very efficiently administrated by Maura Mangam  whom the group highly      respects    Tel: 068 46003

The Bible Garden

Knocknagoshel Community Group

The group was first formed in March 1998.  Five Local Community Groups came together to form a working committee. The objective of the group is to assist worthwhile projects that have been identified as a benefit to the area and will help to improve environment.

The G.A.A. club having purchased a 6 acre field for development, the project will include a playing pitch, dressing rooms, gym and parking area. The progress to date is: the boundary wall is near completion, the final touch is now put to the building, all inside work is near completion. The chairman of the club likes to take this opportunity to thank the FAS C.E. workers for the wonderful quality of the work carried out so far. It is hoped to have the gymnasium opened by October. All the facilities will be available to the handicapped and the elderly and are user friendly.
ABHA BHEAG River

The Knocknagoshel Angling Association was formed in 1998, with a membership of 70 at present and also a junior section. Overgrowth was removed, styles and seating were put in place. Holding pools are put in and the river is stocked with trout. A River walk is put in place and two bridges   are erected

A half mile of the river bank is available for fishing for people with disability's. . The River got a general clean-up. A picnic area is there and planted with shrubs and trees.

The project has been supported by "LEADER, A.D.M., FAS". The workers involved have been very dedicated. The Angling Club wishes to thank all and to say without there help it would not  have been possible.

Please keep the river clean.

Tidy Towns

Knocknagoshel entered the Tidy Towns for the first time in 1997 and received a favorable mark of 176. The report of the adjudicators then read, "Knocknagoshel has begun well in the competition and      has the potential to progress further your village is very attractive      and obviously well cared for. We look to seeing future developments".

Two FAS workers are now employed to assist in the ongoing improvement. The marks received in 1999 now stands at 196, we   also got a recommendation from the adjudicators.

The work involved: the planting of shrubs and trees, weeding the flowerbeds, painting of railings and wood fencing. Stone wall building, looking after our wildlife and flower garden.                                         The laying out of the millennium Bible Garden, and general cleaning    up and maintenance of the village.
