Local Walks and Standing StonesWe like to encourage our guests to experience the local and traditional values. We are very close to The Burren Way walking route and have many circular walks for people to enjoy from Slieve Elva Farmhouse. Walking groups are catered for; we provide maps, advice, suggestions and a packed lunch if requested. Guided walks can be arranged by an experienced guide or individuals can go walking at any time. One of the oldest Irish traditions is the cutting of the turf. For centuries irish men & woman have toiled over this labour. Turf was, for many, the only source of fuel. It is still widely used today by most households. We have especially selected an area of our bog (the term for where turf is cut) to demonstrate for large groups how this craft is done. On our land we have a 14th Century Standing stone. Standing 13 feet tall, it can be accessed from the house. Guests are welcome to cross the fields to take a look. |
