Dinner Dance

We held our eagerly awaited dinner dance on Friday night last in the Bloomfield House Hotel and as expected, it turned out to be one of the best if not the best social event ever held by the club.  When it was first planned in early December, we felt that if we could have an attendance of around one hundred and fifty, we would be very satisfied.  As the date got closer and interest started to build, the figure was revised upwards to one hundred and seventy, however at the final meeting on the Wednesday before the event, when all ticket sellers made their returns, it transpired that every one of the two hundred and sixteen tickets printed were sold and approximately another twenty people could not be accommodated. On Thursday and Friday, tickets for the event were as scarce as tickets for an All Ireland.

Those who did manage to get tickets were rewarded with a most memorable and enjoyable night. From the moment one set foot in the hotel an atmosphere of conviviality and friendship abounded and remained that way until the last of the revellers made their way home in the early hours of Saturday morning. The hotel, despite being put under pressure with the larger than planned attendance, served up an excellent meal very efficiently. The formalities and presentation of medals, which can on occasion be dragged out, were most entertaining and trainer, Rom Deegan’s light-hearted speech and individual introduction of each player, substitute and selector was the highlight of the night.

The club wishes to express its gratitude to County Chairman, Seamus O Faolain, who despite being committed to attend Hurling Board dinner dance in Mullingar honoured us with his presence and even thought of bringing Michael Carley's Keogh Cup medal and presenting it to Michael on the night. Seamus presented the Intermediate Championship medals to the thirty members of the panel and the formalities concluded with a presentation of a framed picture of the team to Rom by team captain Johnny Maloney.

The dance floor was then cleared and the excellent Vision Three entertained us until the early hours.

Saint Brigid's wishes to thank all who attended and helped to make the occasion so enjoyable and also a special word of thanks to the hardworking committee who organised the event. Margaret Flood enjoyed the experience so much that she is now considering taking up promoting rock concerts in Deegan's field.

Condolences

The Club wishes to offer its sympathy to the Deegan family on the death of their aunt, Lil Murray.
