Lights.

When coming from the countryside,
On a dark rainy night.
I look at the lights of the city,
And they are beautifully bright.
As I look out the car window,
I look and see,
Just how beautiful my city can be.
With the lights shining so bright,
It nearly blinded me.
From a distance the lights can be,
Different shapes.
When I’m doing my homework,
Or in the house alone.
I turn on the lights to make me feel,
Safer at home.

Mr. Nobody
Hey Mr.Nobody -Who are you?
Your not a dog, cat, table or shoe.
Hey Mr. Nobody- who are you?
Hey Mr. Nobody what could you be?
A Tyrannosaurus Rex or a bumble bee.
Hey Mr. Nobody please tell me.
Hey Mr Nobody I’m your friend,
Tell me who you are
So this game can end.

War & Peace
DEDICATED TO THE PEOPLE OF KOSOVO

Many people have tried,
Many soldiers have died
But the only way is God’s way.
No more bloodshed,
No more pain.
Let this war be over.
Oh let it be now,
Because we have nothing
To gain from violence
But pain.

When I was Two

When I was two I was only small,
I was not big and was not tall.
I used to wear a smelly nappy,
Unlike now I wasn’t yappy.
For I couldn’t talk or couldn’t walk.
I used to cry when my Mam said ‘ Bye!’,
‘Cause I was only a baby.
But most of all I loved when my Mam
Sang "Rock a By Baby."

My Cat.

My cat’s tail is as bright as the sun
And oh! how fast he can run.
He’s all big and hairy
And sometimes he’s scary
But that doesn’t matter "cos" he’s fun.
   By Jennifer Long.

My Rabbit.

Arnie is my rabbit’s name
She likes to play the football game
Very fast she runs around
But doesn’t like to be found.
Each day we bring her in the house
She is much bigger than a mouse.
Her favourite food is cabbage
And she eats it like she is a savage.
She doesn’t like my Dad that much
But she loves my own special touch.
Even though she sleeps in a hutch
I still remember her very much.

My Secret.

I have a little secret
That no one knows about
Because it would not be a secret
If word of it got out.
Its not a very big one
But neither is it small
Its just the kind of secret
That you could not tell to all.
I keep it in a special place
That no one else can see
And only I can open it
Because it doesn’t have a key.
So if you have a secret
And you can not keep it in
Open up and breathe it out
To drift off with the wind.

Play Time

At play time there is lots to do
Like skipping dancing and Hop scotch too
Talking to my friends is fun
Chasing them will make them Run.
Rain or shine its all the same
We will play every game
The teacher comes to call us in
We flock together with a big grin.

The Silly Boy.

John was a silly old man.
Who saw a big dog and then ran
He ran back to his house
And tripped over a mouse
And banged his head on a big pan.

Bands

My favourite boy band is Five,
Because they really know how to jive,
B*Witched are my favourite girl band,
Because they are cool and from Ireland,
My favourite music is pop or dance,
Because they are the only ones
That has a chance,
Unlike Opera
With children my age,
If our parents turned it on
War would be waged.

Beware

A lion is a strong vicious animal,
So stay back and beware!
He could kill you with one swipe of a claw,
So stay back and beware!
Watch out he might bite your head off,
So stay back and beware!
If your lucky you‚ll leave the park,
So stay away and don‚t come back.

My Mystic

I had a kitty black and white
He used to sleep
With me at night
He would wake me up
To get a scratch
And on his eye
He had a little black patch
We‚d play together all
Day long
Never thinking something
Would go wrong
He was my friend
My pal to
The end
He was hit
By a car
I bet they drove
Away far

What is a friend.

What is a friend
Someone to drive you round the bend
Someone to lie to you
Someone to make you cry?
Or someone to help you understand
Someone to talk to
Or someone to walk with
Someone I could call a friend.

My Snowman Friend

I call him Mr.Frosty face!,
He brings us so much fun,
With his black coal eyes, and his carrot nose,
And a smile for everyone!,
If we play ring a rosy,
Then all our friends will join in!,
But, when the game is „statues,
He always knows he‚ll win!
When I talk, I know he‚ll listen
to every word I say,
I can shout , or knock his hat off ,
He‚ll never run away!
But , when the warm weather comes ,
Then Frosty Face must go ,
until next time that he comes
with winter's ice and snow.

Shakespeare

Shakespeare was a poet,
An actor don‚t you know it ,
A dramatist or playwright ,
And from what my teacher tells me ,
He was alright.
He lived for 52 years ,
And had many good looking beards,
He was not very kind ,
But his wife did‚nt mind ,
Although he was mean ,
She married him at eighteen ,
And when he died ,
she cried because he was dead ,
until she found out that,
All he left her was ,
his second best bed.

The Dream

In my garden there is a mole,
who dug an enormous hole,
Out I went and down I fell,
All the way to the red hot hell,
The devil I met, I let out a sream,
Then I woke it was all a dream.

My Dog

My dog is black,
My dog is not brown,
He likes the snow,
He does not frown,
His name is Murphy,
His eyes are brown,
He likes the cold,
He is not bold.

Families Alone And Lonely

My Mother works at home
Alone and lonely
My Father goes to work
Slaves all day at his desk
Without his family alone and lonely
I go to school work all day
When I go home I‚m alone and lonely
Sometimes I even come home to
An empty house
So most of the time
Families are alone, lonely

Flags

Flags represent countries
They come in different colours and designs
Each colour represents a word
Like peace or hope or maybe war
It brings a charachter to the country
As if its a person
So the next time you see a flag
Do not think of it as just a flag
Think of it as a description of a country
Or a nation

Feelings

People hurt your feelings.
They say its just a joke .
But you and I both know
They‚re not messing at all.
They slag you about stuff
That you believe is true.
They tell you „you‚re just dreaming
And they say that your not cool.
They say „hey look at your hair
Did you have a fight with a lawnmower. „
Yes people hurt your feelings.
They say its just a joke .
But you and I both know
That they‚re not messing at all.

ANIMAL POEM

I had a cat and a dog
They were fat
They lived in a bog
And that was that
I had a rat and a mouse
They were skinny
They lived in my house
And they root through my binny

IN THE DARK

1.
I lie in my bed alone one night,
When all of a sudden I got such a fright,
I reach out my hand to switch on the light,
When someone pulled it with all of their might.

2.
I screamed and shouted and tried to break free,
Why oh ! why do they want me,
I looked around and tried to see,
Who was roaring and laughing at me.

3.
I jumped out of bed and ran all around,
When suddenly I fell to the ground,
A great big arm lifted me up,
I felt in his hand a very warm cup.

4.
Here is your drink,
Then I blinked,
It was all a bad dream,
It was my dad,
or so it would seem.

Famine

The people were saddened by the blight on their land,
No more they could handle,
No more they could eat,
Workhouses were open for the poor and the weak,
No more they could handle,
No more they could eat.

TV

In the coner of the room,
Is where it lives
Enjoyment to all
Is what it gives.
Mam likes Kenny
Dad likes news
Tadhg loves Buffy
And that their views.
I watch South Park
And the Teenage Witch
I love to see Dublin
When they‚re on the pitch.
We are couch patatoe
But we put up a fight
For the remote control
To see who is in charge for the night.

Spring Flowers

The darling, dancing daffodils,
Grow up on the magical hills,
Boldly bobbing their bonny heads,
Then closing up to their cosy beds.
The sweet little snowdrop is as white as soft snow,
And it pushes its petite little body to grow,
Bowing its bold little head to the ground,
Its swaying makes but a small gentle sound.
The tulip stands tall above the rest.
And thinks itself by far the best.
It‚s petals make a colourful crown
And proudly stands without looking down.

Sisters

Why do sisters cry and shout?
And when they don't get their own way
they go into a corner and moan and pout.
And when they eat their dinner they get it
everywhere, and I have to clean it up and I don't
think it's fair.
They look so cute when they're asleep
snoring and snoozing and not a peep.
You go into gve them a goodnight kiss and
then you realise they're not asleep.
You give them a dodee, coax them to sleep.
And before you know it snoring and snoozing and
not a peep.

Peace at last SHHHHHHHHHHHH!

AUTUMN

The leaves turn brown
And fall to the ground
To face their roadside slaughter.
The corn is cut,
The rodents scut
To look for winter quarters,
To shelter from
The weather storms
Of wet and windy forms.
The fruit is ripe
Of different types
As Autumn turns to Winter.

Pictures In A Window.

It was a dark winters night as I sat on my bed,
I looked through the window and
It seemed like the whole world was dead.
The only thing outside which was alive
Was a cow,
Which crawled up my nose as I
Looked through the windowpane now.
In my eyes now I could see
Plants, and far off was
A tree.
I began to grow frightened, puzzled
And amazed
But then I remembered, it was only
ME!

By Alison O’ Riordan

The Door

Go and open the door
Maybe you’ll see flowers
Waving their head with
The breeze.
Go and open the door
You’ll hear
The church bells ringing,
The birds that are singing
And the monkeys that are swinging
Out of the chestnut trees.
Go open the door
If it makes you feel free
Go and open the door
Spread your wings.
Go and open the door
Because life’s to short to be
Kept indoors.
Go and open the door
At least you can close it
If you want to.

When My Grandpop Died

When my Grandpop died
I didn’t want to go to the funeral
I wanted to cry
But I couldn’t let it out
I didn’t want to tell anyone about
My feelings
Because I thought they would only laugh

White!

White is the colour,
You love the most.
White is the colour,
Of a ghost .
White is the clouds,
That hangs from the skies
White is the colour in our eyes
White is the colour of your hair,
When you’re old & in despair.
White is the snow,
That falls on the ground
In winter that comes
All year round.
White is a candle,
That burns all night,
Wondering would anyone turn on
The light.

I WAKE UP

Wanting more sleep,
Gasping for air,
Opening the window,
Breathe in and breathe out.
It’s a lovely morning,
The sun splitting the stones,
Birds singing and farmers
Getting ready for another day’s work.
Oh it’s breakfast time and
I’m ready for school.
Out the door,
Rush down to school.
The doors were locked.
Then I realised
The clocks went back one hour.

Lack Of Inspiration

The poet threw the twentieth sheet of poetry away.
"I’m hopeless" he said in total dismay.
"It’ll never come to me" he said, aloud.
He got up walked to the door,
Then suddenly turned around.
"Ah ha!" he screamed "It’s come to me"
Then he wrote his poem,
He didn’t make a sound
And then when he was finished he was very, very proud

Jenny Manning

SOUNDS TO MY EARS
People talking,
Birds chirping,
Planes flying,
Bees buzzing,
Wings flapping,
Children laughing,
Water dripping and dogs barking.
It’s amazing to my ears
Things I never heard before
Coming into my life.

The Woods.

It’s Saturday night,
I’m bored sitting down on the chair.
I look out the window,
I want to go there.
It’s dark it’s full of trees,
This place isn’t suitable for me,
But I’m brave I’m not scared.
All I have to do is be aware.
I put on my coat, pull up my hood
As I make my way to the wood.
Approaching the wood I feel a hand on my shoulder.
I’m not brave, I’m unaware.
I turn around my MAM is there.
She says to me "You’ll be full of sorrow,
It’s up to bed and grounded tomorrow"

RED

Red is the apple,
That grows on the tree.
Red is the heart,
A valentine for me.
Red is the nose,
On the face of the clown.
Red is the traffic light,
On the street in our town.
Red is the rose,
That smells so sweet.
Red are the blisters,
I get on my feet.
Red is the colour,
Of my favourite team.
Red are the strawberries,
That go with the cream.
Red is the card,
That tells you your off.
Red is the medicane,
I take when I cough.
Red is the face,
Of the Indian Chief.
Red sky at night,
The Shepherd’s Belief.

Friends Again

My cousin bashed me with
A stick
I hit him with a stone
He thumped me on
The nose
I bit his ear he screamed
We called each other
Names
Dad came out and said
That we shoud play
Fair games
I sulked. He moaned I grinned
He smiled
I let him in my
Hut
He gave me a sticky
Sweet
Now we,re
Friends Again

Monsters

(1)
As I lie there wide awake,
And wish that night would turn to day,
I hear their footsteps on the floor,
Muffled noises under the bed.

(2)
Creeping round and round my room,
As I lie there scared and shaking,
Listening now for every sound,
That reaches me in the dark.

(3)
Every creak and every squeak,
Sends me down a tunnel of fear,
A twisting, turning, winding passage,
A dark, dark alley that never ends,
Until the night turns to day,
And all the monsters go away.

F*R*I*E*N*D*S*

Joey’s pretty stupid,
Pheobe’s very weird,
Monica’s obsessed with cleaning,
And Ross is her mad brother.
Rachel’s changed a good bit,
While Chandler’s much the same,
All of them are friends,
And that’ll never change.
Everything goes wrong with them,
Nothing ever right,
But when one of them is troubled,
In the end it all goes right.
In their own way they’re all funny,
Chandler really likes to joke,
Mostly Joey doesn’t get it,
Even though he always laughs,
There’s more charactors than six,
Maybe you don’t know,
Some of them I’ll tell you now,
Are Janis,Guntar,Emily.
Janis has a squeeky voice,
Guntar has a crush on Rachel,
Emily has divorced Ross,
For little mishap of his own.
Altogether Friends are great,
The best T.V. show of all,
No comparison to others,
But I’m not naming any titles.
I like Friends I really do,
And I hope that you do too,
I will watch it,
And so should you,
It’s Monday night on Network Two.
