| Some Facts The building dates from 1785 when it was used amongst other things as a venue for the local musical Society's Part of the foundations of this building are made up of the ancient City walls of Cork The building became a Masonic Hall in 1845, when the First Lodge of Ireland purchased the premises The stalls around the perimeter of the Lodge room came from the Choir of the previous St Fin Barres Cathedral which was demolished and rebuilt in the 1860's The Canopy over the masters chair also came from the Cathedral. This is believed to have been the canopy under which the Bishop sat during services The building was badly damaged by smoke and water from a fire in an adjoining building in 1970.
