Liffey Gaels awards night huge success

Last weekend Liffey Gaels GAA and Camogie Club hosted an awards night in their Sarsfield Road grounds . The first presentation was made to the club by the Ballyfermot Drugs Awareness Group, in recognition of their continued success with the youth of the area.

PRO for the club, Bob Gelston, was keen to point out to the Liberty that youth development was the most important aspect of the club. There are currently plans underway to construct a junior games room, as well as changing areas and further pitches. The cost for these improvements will amount to £500,000. Bob also noted that the Gaels were providing a service both for boys and girls in both hurling and football.

Awards were also given out to local scoolchildren who had entered an essay writing competition run by Dublin GAA magazine Hill 16. Out of 3,000 entry forms handed out, the organisers received a ninety-five per cent return. Interest was so keen that an award was given to every school who did not have a winner.

The final act of the evening was a special presentation to local contractor Derek Behan, who has been "a loyal and constant supporter" to the club, according to Bob Gelston.Prizes were handed out by local TDs including Sean Ardagh, Ben Briscoe and Gay Mitchell. Also present was Sean Egan, Chairman of the Dublin County Board, as well as a number of county players.
