Pat Upton Died On Monday, February 22, 1999

The death has taken place of the Labour TD for Dublin South Central, Dr Pat Upton, aged 54. The Liberty newspaper extends sincere sympathy to his wife Anne and family.

His fellow local representatives have also expressed their sympathy:

Sean Ardagh, TD (FF): "Pat was a constituency colleague, a neighbour and friend. Both himself, his wife Ann and their family worked very hard for Dublin South Central, and I often met them out and about delivering leaflets."

Ben Briscoe, TD (FF): "Pat Upton was a good-humoured and well liked man who had worked hard for his party and constituency since he entered the Seanad in 1989. His sudden death will come as a shock to everyone who knew him, especially as Pat did not appear to be unwell and had been in great form over the past few weeks."

Cllr Eric Byrne (Lab): "When I heard the news today I was absolutely shattered and horrified, particularly having been with Deputy Upton as recently as Friday afternoon. Political life in Ireland will be so much the poorer for the loss of Deputy Pat Upton."

Gay Mitchell, TD (FG): "Pat Upton was decent, hardworking, straightforward, good company and had a good sense of humour. He was devoted to his wife Anne and their children. I considered him more of a workmate than a political opponent. He was the sort of colleague that would keep a confidence and he was a man of his word."
