MORE
INFORMATION ON THE NAMES INSCRIBED ON THE WORLD WAR 1 MEMORIAL,
IN CAHIR, COUNTY TIPPERARY, IRELAND.
The information in the table below is drawn from several sources. There may be instances where the information is not correct e.g. men with the same name might have been confused in the records, or the date of death may be incorrect, or the birthplace wrong. The Fame of Tipperary Group (FOTG) will be pleased to make amendments where these are backed up by personal memories or actual documents relating to the deceased. | ||
NOTE:
|

YOU CAN LINK TO MORE INFORMATION ON ANOTHER SITE BY CLICKING ON TO THE UNDERLINED NAMES, BUT BOOKMARK THIS PAGE FIRST IN YOUR FAVOURITES LIST SO YOU CAN COME BACK HERE.
IF THE REFERENCE NUMBER OF AN ACTUAL GRAVE AT THE MEMORIAL SITE IS KNOWN, IT IS SHOWN BELOW; BUT DUE TO THE CHAOS OF WAR, SOME MEN WERE BURIED ( SOMETIMES UNIDENTIFIED) ALONGSIDE COLLEAGUES OF THE SAME UNIT AND HAVE NO INDIVIDUAL GRAVE. |
For example, the Merchant Navy Monument in the garden of Trinity Square, near The Tower of London, England, dedicated to such men as J. Carew of Cahir, Tipperary, has an inscription which simply reads: "1914-1918 TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND TO THE HONOUR OF TWELVE THOUSAND OF THE MERCHANT NAVY AND FISHING FLEETS WHO HAVE NO GRAVE BUT THE SEA." |
