      The Air Force covers the spectrum of all application options with its forces. This covers the direct and extended national defense in the alliance, the participation in missions of the United Nations and the multinational crisis accomplishment as well as humanitarian assistance. In peacetime the Air Force has in the future altogether 77,400 soldiers.

Here's the list of the German airforce squadrons:

10 flying application squadrons,
6 mixed air defense rocket squadrons,
2 radar guidance and 4 Lufttransportverbaende(einschliesslich ready for flight shank BMVg),
2 communications regiments, 1 communications area,
2 Air Force formation regiments, 4 schools and up to 6 Air Force supply regiments order.

Now a detailed description off all the aircraft:

FIGHTERS

-Tornado multirole aircraft (255 aircraft)

The tornado multi-role aircraft for ground attack and air defense is operational in four terms. -GR1 interdictor /strike aircraft for close air support, counter air attack and defense suppression. -GR1A is an all weather day and night tactical reconnaisense  aircraft. -GR1B is the long range maritime attack version. -GRF3 is the long range air defense fighter

-Eurofighter multirole aircraft (232 aircraft)

The Eurofighter is germany's future fighter aircraft.In is now still in production fase and the first aircrafts will arrive in 2002 untill 2010.The Eurofighter wil replace the F-4 Phantom squadrons.It will be one of the most brilliant fighters in the world.

-F-4 Phantom 2 heavy hunt and bomberplane (147 aircraft)

The first Phantom aircraft were delivered in 1960's. And will be replaced by the Eurofighter in 2010 but had a great reputation in German airforce. A bunch of 90 aircraft is facing update's and will continue serving in the German airforce.
 

-MIG-29 A/UB Fulcrum (24)

After the reuning of West and East the German goverment decided to keep 25 Mig-29 Fulcrums in the german airforce. Now Germany is the only country in West-Europe who flies with Mig's. They have been updated a couple of times.

TRANSPORTERS

- A 400 M

The A400M (formerly known as the Future Large Aircraft) is a military transporter designed to meet the requirements of the air forces of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom.The payload requirements include a range of military helicopters and vehicles, heavy engineering equipment, pallets and cargo containers. Short soft field landing and take off capability is required. The need for airdrops and tactical flight requires good low airspeed flight. The aircraft also has long range and high cruise speed for rapid and flexible deployment.

-C-160 D Transall transporter (84 aircraft)

Germany has 84 of these heavy all transporter. It can carry up to 49,150 kg of supplies. And room for 29 passengers. This is one of the best transporters in Europe.

 

-Airbus A 310 long distance transporter (10 aircraft)

These aircraft are Germany's main trooplifting long distance transporter with capacity for 210 troops or passengers used in all major conflicts were germany was part of.

 

-Let-410 transporter

This is medium transporter for small operations , can carry 9 passengers.

 

 

 

-Boeing 707-320C Long Distance transport aircraft

These transporters can carry up to 170 passengers or troops can also be used as VIP plane or can carry military needs like ammuntion or food.

 

 

CL-601 Challenger,transport and connection aircraft

This a small aircraft but fast and carry up to 20 passengers can be used military or als VIP connection flights.

 

 

HELICOPTERS

- NH 90 

The NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) is one of two versions of the NH90 twin engine multirole helicopter being developed by NH Industries. The other version is the NH90 TTH Tactical Transport Helicopter. NH Industries, the prime contractor for the programme, is a joint venture company owned by Agusta (32%)of Italy, Eurocopter (62.5%) and Fokker (5%) of the Netherlands.

-Medium transport helicopter COUGAR AS MK2

The heaviest helipcopter in the german airforce a product by Eurocopter and can carry 29 troops to the battlefield or can carry supplies to the front also sometimes used as search and rescue.

 

 

--UH-1D light transport helicopter

It is known world wide as a frontline transport helicopter that earned it's name in Vietnam were it was used in big numbers by the Americans to support there frontline troop.

 

 

-Tiger attack helicopter (212 helicopters on order)

It is a joint operation by France and Germany for an Anti-tank and attack helicopter it will come into service in 2003.

 

 

Air Defense

-Hawk missile system

The German Air Force uses the Hawk system for air defence against enemy aircraft it is a radar giuded missile and can hit a target up to 6 km high.

 

 

-Roland air defense system

It can spot enemy aircraft with a radius of 16 km and can hit a target with up to 3km hight with it's missiles.
