Sinn Féin Councillor John Dwyer has reacted angrily to reports on South East Radio, suggesting that Local Authorities in Wexford have been granted increased funding from central government for the coming year.
Cllr Dwyer described the reported increases as: "a devious trick being played on the people of Wexford, by a government well practised in the art of deception."
"The reality is that benchmarking back payments and projected rates of inflation for the coming year reduce the value of what is actually being given to Wexford's local authorities for 2003.
"Local taxes in the form of increased rates, increased bin charges, increased water charges and increased rents on local authority houses, are now to be used to fund the councils of Wexford.
Cllr Dwyer concluded: "This is absolutely unacceptable to Sinn Féin and we will be voting against the proposed budgets in all local authorities in County Wexford"
