Events / Fundraising Handcrafted gifts for sale Wood turned pens, tealight holders and small plates made from the original Cahans church pews have created great interest. See photographs and more info here. Shop To assist with fundraising we have opened Cahans Project Charity Shop on Main Street, Ballybay. Staffed by volunteers, it is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. Recently we have had to reduce our days of opening due to shortage of volunteers. If you have 3 hours to spare and would like to be involved in helping us raise funds please contact us. It continues to provide a steady income toward Cahans' ongoing renovation and conservation. We are extremely grateful to all who volunteer to man the shop week by week. Donations of any re-saleable items such as clothes, shoes, handbags, books, jewellery,household articles would be gratefully received. These can be left in the shop during working hours. Collections can be arranged by contacting us. Recycling The Committee also collects used clothes, bed linen, curtains, shoes and boots for recycling. This has proved to be valuable source of income. Donations of these items can be left in the shop. Auction The annual action will be held on 26th April 2014 at Derryvalley Hall, Ballybay. Donation of items welcome. For further information or for donations please contact us. 250th Anniversary of Exodus (1764 - 2014) 2014 is the Cahans exodus 250th anniversary year, and we will celebrate this historic event. At this point we invite descendants of the original emigrés and all others interested in Cahans past and future to plan to visit Ireland, Ballybay and Cahans in 2014, preferably between May and July. The Cahans group left Ballybay 10 May and arrived at New York on 28 July. The outline plan for the walk is: Saturday 10 May 2014 (the date of the sailing in 1764) - Begin the 'returning to Cahans' walk leaving from Narrow Water Saturdays 14 & 28 June 2014 -  continuing the walk Saturday 26 July 2014 -  arriving at Cahans. An evening of music and food will follow. More details as they become available. PAST EVENTS - The Cahans Walk Leaflet and further information available here. The Cahans walk was successfully completed over four days in June 2012. An average of 12 miles per day was covered by approx. 10 walkers, drawn from both communities north and south of the border. The participants received excellent hospitality in Tullycorbett, Mullyash, Newtownhamilton, Kingsmills, Bessbrook and Newry. On arrival in Narrow Water, the walkers and some representatives of Presbyterian Churches in the area, enjoyed a great meal in Narrow Water Castle. After dinner, entertainment was provided by "Different Drums", a Northern Irish traditional/contemporary group using lambegs, bodhrans, djembe, pipes, whistles and vocals.
