WCF 13th World Congress - Ireland 2002
The XIII World Carillon Federation Congress took place in Cobh and University College Cork from Sunday July 28 to Thursday August 1 2002, the first occasion this event was held in these islands. The Congress, which had as its theme “The Carillon and the Music of the People”, was one of the largest ever, attracting over 200 delegates from throughout Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. A particular attraction was a 48-bell Eijsbouts travelling carillon, specially brought to this country for the first time. As well as Cobh, during the period of the Congress this travelling carillon also visited other locations throughout Counties Cork, Wexford and Waterford. The Congress began with a special Mass in St. Colman’s Cathedral concelebrated by Most Rev. Dr. John Magee, Bishop of Cloyne, and members of the Cathedral Chapter. The packed programme included carillon recitals, lectures and social events. The Congress was grant aided by The Arts Council and Cork County Council.
A special thank you to everyone who made the WCF 2002 Congress such a resounding success. We hope all delegates enjoyed the congress and found it both interesting and informative. A special thanks to all our sponsors.
