FIVE
STEPS TO HOME AUTOMATION |
|
1 |
Firstly, pinpoint exactly what you want to do with your home. Do you really want to create an environment whereby you can turn on your toaster while you are in the shower, or do you have a specific reason for automating your home? Perhaps security is uppermost in your considerations? |
2 |
Make sure you are in control -that is the point, after all. Don't get involved with a system that is going to leave you bewildered. Whether you go the XIO way or not, plan out your home. |
3 |
Draw up a simple diagram of your home with all the appliances you wish to control. If you decide X1O is for you, then contact Home Control and tell them exactly what you want to do with your home. They can advise you on which package to go for. Bear in mind that this technology is in development and that you can always expand as and when you need to. Currently, you don't need a hugely powerful PC to use X1O in your home, and in some cases you might not need a PC at all. |
4 |
If you're using X1O equipment and a PC, then setting things up is pretty simple. It's really just a matter of connecting your appliances via your existing mains wiring. Each module you purchase will attach to the mains plug of the desired appliance - just remember to give each one a different ID address. On your PC, you can create some standard macros to deal with frequently occurring situations. A 'party' macro, for example, might include dimming the lights, starting up the hi-fi and, if you're really lucky, vibrating the bed. |

Sit back and watch it all happen. Invite friends over and show off. |
