Welcome - Fáilte

Welcome to An Bóthar Pub and Guesthouse. We hope you find this version of our website useful and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Located at the foot of Brandon Mountain (Cnoc Bréanainn) and with Smerwick Harbour and the Three Sisters headlands as our magnificent backdrop, we offer you the ideal place to get away from it all.

The Three Sisters from the garden

In Irish, Bóthar ("bo-har") means 'road'. So it is that the pub is by the roadside, on the famous Slea Head Drive. It leads to historic Brandon Creek (Cuas an Bhodaigh) and connects the small village of Cuas with the outside world.

Music & Craic

After a satisfying day sightseeing or walking, come back to a warm welcome. We have traditional music on most evenings and the "craic" is always mighty.

Warming-up in the bar

The Bóthar Pub is an old-world pub that offers all the facilities a visitor needs to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful holiday.

Or, if you prefer something more energetic, we are only 8 miles (13km) from Dingle town where there are a number of nightclubs.

Live Traditional Music

Traditional music sessions take place in the Bóthar Pub on many nights throughout the year - and are often accompanied by enthusiastic Irish set dancing.

During the Summer, there is live music in the bar on at least 5 nights each week.

During other seasons, sessions usually take place every Saturday night, with impromptu sessions likely on Friday, and sometimes Sunday nights.

An Bóthar Pub sessions frequently attract top Irish musicians when they are in the area.

Activities

The Bóthar Pub is the perfect base from which to organise your walking, cycling or sightseeing holiday. We are literally surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

The Bóthar Pub is located on the Dingle Way (Slí Chorca Dhuibhne) walking route in the town land of Ballycurrane. We are just a short distance from the start of one of the most peaceful and spectacular legs of the Dingle Way: the walk across Brandon Mountain to Brandon village.

The area's varied marine, coastal and inland environments support a wealth of wildlife. Probably the most visible aspect is the bursting seasonal array of flowering plants.

The Dingle Peninsula is steeped in ancient history. The area around the Bóthar Pub is no exception, with many excellent ruins, 'beehive' huts and ringforts to be explored. Cathair Fionnúrach, one of Ireland's best-preserved stone ringforts, is situated nearby.

Legend states that Saint Brendan 'the Navigator' set sail from Cuas harbour on a voyage across the North Atlantic in the 6th century AD. It seems he reached North America 900 years before Columbus!

Once you arrive at Dingle, continue to Milltown roundabout and go north to Cuas for about 6 miles (10km) until you see a stone-carved 'Bóthar Pub' sign at a fork in the road: turn right and continue for about 2 miles (3km) more.

You can't miss us: we are on the left with Ireland's second highest mountain on the right!
