General Introduction
Earning a "Gaisce" medal or the President's Award is about setting a
demanding challenge for one's self.
Aims & Objectives
Its about "stickability" and learning to overcome problems during
participation in a variety of areas in life.
Programmes
"Gaisce" is for people between 15-25 years. It offers a challenge to receive
3 medals, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze starts at 15, Silver 16, and Gold at 17 years.
To receive these medals one must take part in community involvement, a skill, a sport and
a venture activity. A personal challenge is agreed in writing. For Bronze, the voluntary
work must be 1 hour a week over 3 months. The skill 1 hour a week for six months, the
sport 1 hour a week over 3 months. The venture activity requires walking or cycling over
two days.
Volunteer Profile
Volunteer adults or teachers are required to monitor "Gaisce" for each group
of participants and to agree their personal challenge in writing. These volunteers are
