Foróige

General Introduction

Founded in 1952, formerly named Macra na Tuaithe, Foróige is a national voluntary youth organisation which involves the members of a community in influencing the development of its youth.

Aims & Objectives

Foróige enables young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their own development and in the development of their communities.

Programmes

To help in the selection of club activities Foróige has developed eight youth development programmes. These are:

Citizenship; Leadership; Culture; Health; Science; Family and Life Skills; Agriculture/Horticulture; Youth Co-Operative Education.

Foróige also manage 2 special Youth Projects on behalf of City of Cork VEC in the Glen and Mahon areas of Cork City.

Volunteer Profile

Foróige has over 500 clubs spread throughout the country with 17,500 members (boys and girls in the 12-18 age group) and 1,700 voluntary adult leaders.
