There will be a short practice for all involved in the Readings of the Passion on Palm Sunday and Good Friday in the Church on Friday night next (April 11) at 8pm.

On the Tuesday of Holy Week (April 15) there will be a Reconciliation Service in Kells Church similar to the one we had before Christmas.

As the usual date for the Council Meeting falls during Holy Week, the next meeting is deferred until Tues 29 April at 8.30pm in the Parochial Hse.

GOOD FRIDAY
There has been a centuries-old tradition in this country and town that Christians do not do unnecessary business and that business premises do not open on this most sacred of days. Many people complain about the erosion of the sacred in our country. Can we in Kells reverse this trend and from our deep Christian heritage set a headline in the country?

TROCAIRE

During the Guatemalan civil war, over 200,000 were killed or ‘disappeared’. 83% of those who died were Maya. Government forces committed over 80% of the killings. During the time of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia (1975-79) up to 2 million people, out of a population of 7 million, were killed. Many indigenous people, who lived not far from the border, fled to Vietnam and Laos.

SPECIAL RECONCILIATION SERVICE

Tuesday next (April 15) at 8pm in Parish Church in preparation for Easter.

People who wish to meet the Lord in the Sacrament of Reconciliation that evening will be asked to approach the sanctuary as if they were coming to Communion. You then go to one of the priests and say words such as ‘I am sorry for my sins – I ask God’s forgiveness’ or ‘I am sorry for all my sins especially ----’ then the priest will give you absolution.

Holy Saturday Vigil and Easter Sunday- - April Groups

Trocaire

As well as planning long term development for Third World countries, Trocaire must also respond quickly to emergencies that arise.

Trocaire has launched an appeal in Ireland on behalf of Caritas International for €8 million for Iraq. The funds are for a programme to feed and provide medical care for 260,000 internally displaced Iraqis living in the Mosul, Kirtuk, Baghdad and Basra regions. The majority of these domestic refugees comprising 21,000 families are living with other families, who will also benefit from aid and another 1740 families are living in Church buildings. Half are under 14 years of age or over 60.

The Trocaire Boxes will be collected at the doors of the Church on HOLY THURSDAY at 5pm and 7.30pm Masses in Kells and at the 8pm Mass in Girley.
