In the Irish language tradition, the Blessed Virgin had a name of her own – Muire – that set her apart from all others. Her Feast of the Assumption was a big day in Ireland; la Feile Mhuire Mor san Fhomhair, coming as it does at harvest time.

The Feast of the Assumption sets Mary apart as unique. The first fruits of a flawed humanity, first to achieve perfection, body and soul in heaven, an example and inspiration for all others to follow.

To date only Mr. Albert Rountree of Balrath Rd Kells has produced proof of cover, which satisfies the requirements.

For this reason the Cemetery Committee is obliged to state that any other machine operator is deemed to be working illegally and will be asked to leave the Cemetery.

STAINED GLASS WINDOWS IN KELLS CHURCH

The Parish Finance and Administration Committee along with representatives of the Pastoral Council and Liturgy Committee have met twice in the last month to see what should be done about the stained glass windows in the church in the light of the views of parishioners expressed in the recent survey.

Two firms were asked to inspect the windows.

The good news is that the windows are no longer in danger of falling out (as had been thought). We have also been told that the glass is unique as it is cast in glass known as Norman Slabs; each piece of glass in individually cast and is uneven in nature which produces the brilliance in colour.

However, as the windows are sagging and bulging in many places, some action is recommended to stop any further deterioration of the glass work.

The meeting agreed that this should be done in conjunction recommended by parishioners.

Consideration was also given to the placing of a new Rose Window behind the altar. As this would involve work on the structure of the building, no decision was taken. The views of parishioners would be appreciated.
