Density measures how crowded each county is. If you spread everybody in Dublin county evenly over the entire county there would be 1,219 people for every square kilometre. Of course, people aren't spread evenly. For example, it's more crowded in Dublin City or Dún Laoghaire than it is in the mountains or in the farming areas.
