Hurling

Hurling has always been the number one sport in Crusheen in both parish and school. One of our teachers, Mrs. Molloy, is all star Ollie Baker’s aunt. Ollie’s father and grandfather played for Crusheen. Crusheen had their own all star, Mick Moroney, in 1977. We have been involved in primary school hurling since 1983.

Roll of Honour

Div. 5 runners up- 1987, 1988 and 1994.

Div. 4 winners- 1995.

Div.2 winners-1996.

We then moved on to the first division in 1997 and Ennis National, who were eventual winners, beat us in the semi-final. In 1998 we were yet again beaten in the division 1 semi-final, this time by Ennis C.B.S.

A lot of past pupils have played for Clare teams. Shane O’Donnell, Gearoid O’Donnell, Gerry Gleeson and Cathal Dillon have all played for the Clare junior team. Brendan McMahon was on the Clare minor panel, who won the All Ireland in 1997. Diarmaid O’Doherty and Niall McMahon played for the Clare team in the primary game. Gerard O’Grady, Patrick Vaughan and Patrck Meaney all played for Mid Clare under 16 team which won the Munster under 16 in 1998. Gerard O’Grady plays for his school, St. Flannan’s, and his county. He was the first hurler from our parish to win a Dean Ryan Munster Colleges medal and this year he has added a Harty Cup and All-Ireland Colleges medal to his collection. Padraig Hasset played for the Clare Forestal team in 1998. This year he played for Mid-Clare with Gerard O'Grady and Clive Early.
