Imagine a DJ?
Dictionaries describe a DJ as an announcer who presents popular recorded music. We now know this description to have expanded somewhat.
The DJ stands behind, usually, 2 turntables and a mixer, and that, basically, is it. He/she plays records, usually other peoples material, and mixes between them. Skillful as is.
Now imagine a DJ,
using 3, maybe 4 decks, standing behind his/her mixer. Still
nothing entirely new? A bit more difficult and maybe creative I
suppose. But we are expanding on the basic theory.
Now imagine that DJ uses a midi clock generator
(analogue-digital), to midi-synch into their usual performance
additional live drum machines, bass simulations, sampled phrases
and live keyboards plus other studio effects. Now thats
different!
A total hybrid between a DJ and a live musical performer.
A totally new form of club entertainment.
A midi-clock
basically emits a pre-determined tempo click to make
sure that everything linked to it via a midi-cable stays in time.
This is a digital signal. The sound source signal
coming from a turntable is an analogue signal. Until
lately, you couldnt accurately synch up digital effects
such as samplers, keyboards, drum machines, etc. with an analogue
signal such as this. To synch up the tempos of everything would
be virtually impossible. Not any more.
Imagine what it would sound like to hear a tune you know totally
remixed live before your eyes and ears? New drum patterns,
additional sounds, different basslines?
This is what the above new cutting-edge technology allows a skilled DJ to do. Bringing in and out totally new and original music, on top of and with the usual performance of the records being played.
The possibilities are endless. Infinite results. No more boundaries. The results are an aural adventure and a totally new angle on what we know and expect in a DJ performance.
This is what Impulsive Records and all our DJs are about.
THIS IS THE FUTURE DJ CONCEPT.
