Darren Emerson at the Red Box
By Barry Dempsey

The last night of January '98 saw the return of Underworld's Darren Emerson to the P.O.D. club in Dublin, only this time it was to grace the turntables of P.O.D.'s big brother venue - The Red Box!

Darren Price was the supporting DJ to Emerson and he came onto the decks after Dublin's Billy Scurry. Price opened the affair with some Tech-House cuts which immediately sent the 1,200 strong crowd into Techno overdrive. Every mix dished out by Price was greeted by the loudest whistles and ectasy-fuelled cheers. Banging tunes with a boppy feel was the theme for the night and the crowd were up for anything that was thrown at them.

Emerson continued the pace adding chunkier beats to a well constructed set of tight mixes and an overall industrial sound - his own sound! Under the DJ booth stood the trainspotters responding to every flicker of the EQ and eagerly awaiting the thump of the next record, never dissapointed with the result!

If this is what the dance music of 1998 has to offer, then we're in for a spectacular eleven more months!
