PRESS RELEASEEveryone is aware of the creative energies bursting in the hearts and minds of young people all over Ireland. Each day a new poet is born, who knows of the wonders of a poet's words will ignite. There is an artist for every moment of the day. The fruit of their spirit is food for our soul and we need to be touched by their delicate genius. In Co. Kildare such genius is emerging in the guise of a School Arts Project, designed to bring together students from different Secondary Schools in the Newbridge/Kildare area through their artistic abilities and talents. This project has been named "Sceala", a word meaning communication or stories and its aims are to accommodate the aesthetic needs of young people in secondary schools. The concept of "Sceala" first came to light by a young artist named Pierce in the offices of the Kildare Performing Arts Group. Through Pierce's encouragement the students from the fourth year classes of the Holy Family Secondary School, The Curragh Post Primary School and the Patrician Brothers Secondary School joined forces to develop the idea. The results of their collective efforts is an exciting Blue Print for an event, which aspires to unify the young individual voices of Kildare through the medium of the Arts. Note, but for the hard work of all the staff in the Kildare Performing Arts Group, the students, teachers, local buisness people and independent sponsers the dream of "Sceala" would not have become a reality. It should also be noted that many local artists in the community have devoted their time, creativity, and expertise in assisting the fourth year students in organising "Sceala" 98. We are grateful for the backing of Mary Lenihan, Co Arts Officer. As "Sceala" is a pilot venture, only the Secondary Schools in the immediate area are invited to participate. Representatives from the other schools are invited to attend this Showcase and to be involved in further developing "Sceala". I regret to say that through lack of sufficient seating this event is by invitation only. |
