Jan21-99 Mika_MGP.zip (780 Kb) Made from McLaren in-car MP3 recording.  Full stereo.
Jan21-99 Damon_MGP.zip (1.2 Mb) Made from Williams Renault in-car MP3 recording.  Full stereo.
Nov11-98 Ferrari_MGP.zip (137 Kb) Made from GPL Ferrari wav loop.  Mono shift sounds.
Sep28-98 Schu_MGP.zip (106 Kb) Developed from GP2 engine loop.  Mono shifts.

How to install:

1.  Download the zip file and extract *.wav files to the Ubisoft\Mgprs2\Datab\Resson.directory.  If you don't know how to handle zip files go to the Winzip site for the utility.

2. Install Rene Smit's sound editor F1Bnm.exe v1.5 or v1.6.

3. Launch the F1Bnm edit pgm and use it to open Mgprs2\Datab\Resson\Bnk_0.bnm

4. Now you will see a list of all the sounds.  You need to change the following...

     #8                 low rev downshift

     #10               engine loop

     #111             high rev downshift

Change the sound by double clicking on the number.  This brings up a "sound resource properties" box.  Click the "select" button to choose a replacement sound. Steer to to the Resson directory and click on the new sound (eg Mika_lo.wav).

5. Important!  Before you click "OK", make sure you set the "storage type" flag to "external" rather than banked.  You can also set the volume, it goes from 0-127.

Troubleshooting:

Here are some of the problems I’ve come across and a few suggestions of what to do…

1. Game adds a big "click" to the engine loop even if it is a clean loop.

Solution: I’ve only seen this using Ubisoft’s sound editor. Use Rene Smit’s F1Bnm.exe for changing the sounds.

2. Game crashes with "MGPRS.exe error" when trying to load the track information.

Solution: Set your new sounds to "external" rather than "banked".

3. Sound is choppy and garbled using 3D sound card.

Solution: Manny has found a way around this. I think this may only allow standard stereo output but at least it works. Open the file c:\Ubisoft\Mgprs2\Cpa\dll\Snd_cpa and change the line….

from… Test0=_SND_fn_bIsDirect3DOptimum@0

to…        Test0=SND_fn_bIsDirect3DOptimum@0

4. Still problems?

Solution: Maybe your bnk_0 is corrupt? Get a brand new one from the Mgprs2 CD.   Put the CD in and right-click on it to see all the files on the CD. Copy Bnk_0 into your Resson folder and overwrite your old one. Be sure to right-click on the new Bnk_0 file and select "Properties". Make sure "Read-only" is unchecked.
