50th Anniversary About the school Headfort House Home
The Green Drawing Room

The Green Drawing Room(Saloon) looks out on to the topiary on the South side of the house and beyond that over the artificial lakes and what remains of the considerable planting on the islands. Steps lead from the French window in the Green Drawing Room to the Topiary and the lawns at the front of the house. The room has been shorn of its original French furniture; all that remains are the mirrors and the ceiling. The centrepiece of the ceiling is the roundel pictured on The Robert Adam page

This is a detail from the ceiling of the Green Drawing Room. Shown is the alternating pattern of ornamental urns and medallions. Though the ceiling is in fact almost rectangular, Adam treated it as square and adjusted the size of the coving to match.

The roundel is surrounded by a symmetrical circular design, as detailed below. The school uses the Saloon for Music lessons, meetings of various sorts, Mass on Holy days and exhibitions of the children's art or other items of interest. It is also commonly used, in conjunction with the Ballroom, by third parties for functions such as weddings, dinners and conferences. The rooms lend themselves well to this, with their stately proportions and ornate decor. If you are interested in using these rooms for a function, please get in touch with the Headmaster by phone or email Leading off from it is the Chinese Drawing Room. The Chinese furnishings which once adorned the walls are now abroad, in New York apparently. Further doors lead to the Front Hall and the Ballroom. There are also three false doors to preserve the symmetry of the room, as elsewhere at Headfort, making a total of six doorways on the three interior walls of the room.
