Welcome to my photo journal of my two grandchildren, Chindato and Condato (Chinny & Condy to those who have wiped their bums and poked fingers in places we'd rather not recall...) On the left: Chindato - Aldato
- Nimmerdor - Ladykiller (TB) Chinny was born in mid-April 2001, and lost his mother Bi three days later to an impacted colic. Within 3 weeks, Chinny had a total of three mothers, and is so independent that when his foster mum from three weeks of age left when he was ten months old, he didn't bother coming to the gate to wave goodbye. Chinny is an interesting foal - despite losing his mother so early, he has many of her mannerisms, down to the way he places his forefeet as he walks, and being boss foal even though his foster mum was bottom of the mare herd. On the right: Condato - Aldato
- Nimmerdor - Ladykiller (TB) Condy is a clown. Born in mid May, it was lucky that he came a week early, as he was so big I had to help him out. Condy's fascinated by everything, and loves to stick his nose to your mouth to 'listen' to you talk, sing, cluck, whatever. Condy's mind works in straight lines - if he wants to go into the barn, he won't figure out how to go around the horse standing between him and the door - he'll simply wait till they move out of his way. Both foals are by the Dutch Warmblood stallion, Aldato, who has improved on the temperaments of both dams. However, in looks, Chinny has taken 100% after his mummy - hopefully he has inherited her ability also. Not surprisingly, however, as his dam was Dutch conformation champion, Aldato has improved Condy's conformation from that of his dam, Babbling, who is slightly back at the knee. It is interesting that both foals' necks are set on much higher than that of their dams'. The low set neck of the Irish horse can be attributed to the thoroughbred, but the higher shoulder of the warmblood which allows them to lighten their forehand under saddle so well, has combined with the Irish good limbs and pretty looks to produce two nice foals (in my biased opinion). I have tried to recount some of the experiences over the past twelve months in these pages. Click here to read more. |
