This coin is an example of a penny of Edward's second coinage struck in Dublin.

The legends are clear with no blundering and read:
(obverse) .EDW.R'. ANGL'.D NS.hYB'
(reverse) CIVI TAS DVBL INIE
Which translates and expands to (obverse)Edward King of England, Lord of Ireland
(reverse) Citizen of Dublin
The punctuation in the legend is useful for determining which issue a coin belongs to.

This coin is from the first group of issues which are normally characterised by a trefoil of pellets on the king's breast (see illustration) . However this coin is a very scarce variety which has no pellets on the king's breast.

This coin is in Fine/Very Fine condition (meaning obverse is Fine and reverse is Very Fine). The obverse is quite weakly struck and has some flatness in the design as well as in the legends, the reverse is quite well struck up and has not suffered the same level of wear.

This would not normally be a desireable condition for an Edward I penny of a common type as Very Fine examples are generally available, however this variety with no pellets below the bust is very scarce and the few known examples are not in particularly nice grades. They are rarely offered for sale.

This variety is not listed in the current printed catalogs.
