This coin is a Irish shilling of Phillip and Mary issued in 1555.

The design is similar to the groat of the same issue (illustrated here)- except that the date is below the busts on the obverse of the shilling.

This example is in Very Fine condition. It has a good round flan and excellent surfaces. The striking is not particularly good and there is some weakness in the obvesre legends and the portraits are slightly double struck.

Overall this a very collectable example - the striking problems are common with this issue and the quality of the surfaces and the full flan are scarce for the type.
