Irish Meteorological Society

The Irish Meteorological Society was founded in 1981. Its main aims are:

  • The promotion of an interest in Meteorology
  • The dissemination of meteorological knowledge, pure and applied
The Society includes members not only from Ireland but from all over the world who are interested in weather and weather related topics. The membership is drawn from those who work in Meteorology, Aviation, Marine and Agriculture, from teachers and lecturers and indeed anyone who is interested in meteorology and the environment.

Activities of the Society

  • Four or five lectures in the Spring and Autumn on meteorology or related topics.See the programme for the 2003/2004 season.
  • An Annual Guest Lecture
  • Lectures usually on Friday evenings in Dublin
  • A One-Day meeting in April including five or six talks on a theme. The last Meeting was based on the theme of Weather and Food.
  • An AGM following the One Day Meeting.
  • A field trip in May to a site of interest.
  • Production of a Member's Newsletter three or four times a year.
  • Annual Dinner in January or February.

The Irish Meteorological Society - 2004
