One of Kells's newer eating places,The Ground Floor, in Bective Square, offers a wide range of meals at attractive prices. The Early Bird menu, available from 6 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. , is outstanding value at £7.95 + tax (12). The blackboard specials which feature on this menu change daily but there's always a choice of four starters and six main courses, with an extensive range of fresh fish dishes. The atmosphere of the restaurant recalls the chic of 70s Paris, combined with a thoroughly modern feel.

The novel façade of The Ground Floor, all reds and golds. The restaurant is conveniently sited close to the centre of Kells but there is plenty of parking. The Ground Floor is open every day from 6 p.m. till late ( Sundays 5 p.m.). The wine list is most interesting, with a selection of French, Spanish and New World wines.

The main menu is varied and international in outlook. Starters range from £1.50 to £4 (2 - 5) and main dishes from £5.45 to £9 (7 - 12). Char grilled steaks to order and Mediterranean specialities feature on the menu. Booking advisable and highly recommended.

Artwork by Belfast artist Terry Bradley lends the interior an individual look. Subdued candlelight and the mix of greys and pastel yellows enhance the ' feel ' of the place.
