The Railway Bar

The Railway Bar is situated near the site of the old railway station. It is also known locally as "Jack's", after Jack Olohan, the former eminence grise behind the bar. It is full of railway memorabilia, timetables etc. as a reminder of its former days. At the back, there is an outdoor patio for sitting and sipping. The Olohans have also assembled a collection of farming implements from times past; these adorn the garden area at the rear of the bar.The Railway bar exterior. The bar is sited next door to the Kells Tennis Club at the junction of the Athboy and Mullingar roads. The garden area is at the rear. There are several bars and a pool table. Jack's also is the place for pub quizzes and satellite TV on big sporting occasions, rugby internationals and so on.

The nearest trains are in Navan, though no passenger traffic calls there. Trains run from Drogheda (25 miles away) to Dublin and Belfast. The closure was a short-sighted decision, as you will know if you have driven to Dublin recently. People would now kill for a 45 minute journey to the centre of Dublin.
