Meet our friends in New Zealand!
We awaited the arrival of Peewee Te Kiwi the by now well travelled kiwi of Paengaroa Primary School, New Zealand. Peewee has been doing a tour of Europe since March 1998 - a "potted" history of which is given below. He arrived in Ireland on Saturday 24th April 1999. We planned a real Irish welcome for Peewee and are most grateful to the pupils and staff of Paengaroa School, New Zealand and in particular to Lynne Ralph for involving us in this project. We believe that after a brief return to his home country, he is now headed for Japan!
On 24th. March, Peewee left New Zealand for Sweden and enjoyed spending some time with the teachers and children of Frostaskolan. He even learnt how to play Handball!
On June 24th, 1998, Peewee arrived in Germany and spent ten glorious days at Montessori School in Bonn. He enjoyed sailing down the River Rhine - passing the township of Unkel on the way.
On 14th. September, 1998 Peewee left Germany and arrived in Stubbekobing Skole in Denmark some four days later. Here we see him landing!
While in Denmark, Peewee visits a medieval centre and even checked out a medieval toilet!
On 24th. December, 1998, Peewee arrived in Belgium and is spending some time with the teachers and pupils of Sint-Maartensschool. In this photo, Peewee was made guest of honour at a special lunch. They have many plans and we look forward to hearing about Peewee's adventures very soon.
During February Peewee visited the battlefields at Flanders. Here, in the museum, we see a doctor tending to the wounded.
Peewee was taken to visit a carnaval while in Belgium. He managed to escape having his face painted, however!
On 14th April, Peewee left Belgium and his friends at Sint-Maartensschool. His itinerary has been changed to fit in with school holidays. He will not visit London, until he has spent some time with us. He arrived in Ireland on 24th April and has already made some new friends in Second Class.
The highlight of Peewee's visit with us was our trip to Aras an Uachtarain on 24th May, This is the official residence of the President of Ireland and ten of us were invited to a garden party with lots of other schools. The picture opposite was on the front page of that evening's Evening Herald! Click here to read about it.
