The wedge-shaped tomb was a communal grave built by people living near the lake in about 2,500BC. The burial traditions of prehistoric peoples can offer an insight into their customs and beliefs.
When archaeologists excavated the tomb in 1938, they found the bones of at least 8 adults and 4 children; a reminder of the high rate of infant mortality.There were also some cremated human bones. The large stones or megaliths, were originally covered by a mound of smaller stones.
