The great stone circle is signposted from the main road. The circle is 150 feet in diameter and consists of around 80 stones. The largest, Rannach Croim Duibh, is over 13 feet high. The stones date back to 2000BC. The circle is believed to have a religious significance and Lough Gur's shore is barely 300 metres from the west edge of the Lough.
It is an intriguing and impressive site and there are two smaller stone circles nearby which lend to the mystery. The entrance to the circle is on the east side. The slab faced cobbled passage allows access to the centre.The site suggests a strong religious impulse as well as a high degree of organisation.
