Westwood House HotelPresentation Piece 3
This is one picture, in a series of seven pieces, commissioned for a newly refurbished Galway hotel. The series of pieces features a biography of famous families and persons associated with the locality. In this instance, Richard Martin, is profiled (see sketch above). Italic calligraphy was used for the body text, and half uncial style for the title. Gold foil was also used as decoration in the title. Gouache was used for the title and illustration. This piece was written on cream Aquarelle Arches paper (300 g/mē), and measured approximately 56cm x 74cm, and has a deckle edge all round (see below, right).
Richard (nicknamed Humanity Dick) was the founder of the Royal Society of Prevention to Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), and hence the client requested a picture of an Irish wolfhound (over whom Richard fought a duel!) be featured. |
