NORTHWAY ESTATE COMMUNITY GAMES WINNERS by Liam o Ceallaigh
The Dublin team from Northway Estate in Finglas won the girls U16 table tennis in Mosney in recent weeks. The team of Sinead Kelly, Grainne McKenna, Susan Swan, Denise Tracy and Sorcha Kirwin beat a young Cavan side 4 - 2 in the semi final and went on to play the "ould enemy" Cork in the final. As expected it was a tight and exciting match with Sinead's and Anna's singles going to deuce in the third and with the rest of the the singles going to form the match went to the deciding doubles which the Dublin duo of Sinead and Grainne just beating the Cork girls of Rachel and Anna 7- 21, 21 - 19, 21 - 18. The win was all the more sweeter as some of the Northway girls are overage next year so this was their last chance to win gold and it was good for Northway who have been playing in community games table tennis for over ten years and this time went all the way. So well done Dublin, hard luck to Cork and hopefully we will see you again next year.
