Basketball is originally an American sport but it is growing in popularity in Ireland. The object of the game is to score the most baskets within forty minutes. To play basketball you must have good discipline, a high level of fitness and great skill. There are five players on a team. Coaches can call time outs if they wish to change their team’s style of play.
In Oranmore, where I live, basketball is a very popular sport. I have won many medals playing with Oranmore. Because we play as a team and pass the ball around we are almost, unbeatable. We have great facilities. Our court is lined perfectly with a stage for the audience to watch.
Our trainers are John Finn and Jurgen Gottsche. They are truly excellent. They keep on doing the same drill over and over again until we get it right. The drills that we learn come in handy in a game. We call them numbers so when we want to do a certain drill we call the number. There is no way that any other team can stop these strategies.
Basketball is my favourite sport and it always will be.

Soccer:
As a midfield player you will be one of the busiest people on the pitch. You and the players alongside you will try to control the centre of the park and also help in defence and attack. Supporting and covering apply especially to you. A good midfield is made up of a combination of players who can tackle and win the ball pass accurately play the you with one touch, hold on to the ball if necessary, and run and run. As a midfielder, you should determine the pace of the game. Slow it down or inject some life into it depending on what
does not suit the other team.By Ronan
Basketball
In 1891, a Canadian clergyman invented the game of basketball when he nailed a peach basket to the balcony at each end of the local gymnasium. This is when the game of basketball was invented. The object of the game is to score points by throwing the ball into the "basket" at your opponent end of the court. Basketball is a non contact sport, played on an indoor court, in which players throw and bounce the ball, but are not allowed to kick or carry the ball. Because of the height of the baskets, there are many very tall basketball players the tallest being 2.45 m (8 ft ) ! The biggest and best basketball league is NBA in America. The best player was Michael Jordan but he retired Feb 99, after playing with the Chicago Bulls for 10 years, winning six championships.

Like archery the sport of shooting grew out of the use of weapons as hunting tools. Indeed, sporting shotguns are still used today for shooting small game [birds hares etc] as well as the so-called clay pigeons. Rifles are used to hunt big games such as deer and elephants and target shooting. Shooting competitions differ according to the type of firearm and ammunition used the position of the marksman and form of the target.

Rapid-fire Pistol Shooting (target pistol)
There are various pistol-shooting competitions the main one is the rapid-fire event over 25 m (83 ft). A row of five silhouette targets is turned to face the competitor for just 4, 6 or 8 seconds, during which he must fire one shot at each of them.

Overhead Shots
This requires great confidence. The ‘keeper doesn’t stand a chance because it’s impossible to predict where the ball will go. Practise this shot on a gym mat or in a sand-pit. Take turns with a friend throwing the ball up to each other you can even do it on your own and go for it.
The half-volley
The non-striking foot is next to the ball as you hit it just after the bounce. Keep your head down and watch the ball, but lean back slightly to allow a full follow through. Point the toes down and keep the ball low.
Two ’’halves’’ of 45 minutes each are played. The referee may add on extra time if the game has been delayed
These teams from American football are called Cincinnati Benguls, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants.
Hockey as it is played today first became popular in England in the late-19th century
The goaltenders need more protection than the other players: they have to try to stop hit at speeds of up to 190 km/h118 mph
Both teams can call a one-minute time out ‘’twice in each half of the match to discuss tactics.

Hi, my name is Andrew O’Connell and I‘m going tell you about soccer in the school and in the parish in under age level.
In our school we have soccer at break time only!

We got new a blue away kit in October. In the U-13 competition we have finished in the league. We played against the following:
Salthill Davon ( Won 6-4 ) Home
Athenry ( Drew 1-1 ) Away
Cregmore ( 4-2 ) Home
Lakeside Celtic ( Won 7-3 ) Away
Dunmore ( Drew 1-1 ) Home
Mervue United (B) ( Won 3-1 ) Away
West Coast United (not played yet) Home
We are very happy with our performances in the league. We haven’t got any younger teams then our U-12 and U-13. We are now training indoors because it’s getting too dark too early to outdoors. We train in Maree Community Centre.
