The primal scrolls, rescued from the lost island of Elkinon in the Azure sea reveal to us in the very nature of Sorcery. To study the scrolls themselves is to surrender ones magical ability because with understanding one becomes impotent within the forces that surround us. It was the Evil necromancer Ramon Daarke who revealed the scrolls powers and thus rendered himself powerless. such a price is unthinkable to any wizard, even those who realise that all knoeladge has a price. And so the primal scrolls are kept here in the tower of Eclypse and only those accounts pened by Ramons own hand may be studied.

In essence the scrolls tell us that all magical power exists naturally and every sentient being is capable of harnessing it in some form or another in its rawest form. This raw form manifests itself in the every daty cantrips people use sometimes without knowing it.

For example in the northern lands of the Nomads and the Perren terratories an everyday greeting is in fact a blessing of luck. This incantation of magic transformas the raw magic that surrounds us into refined energy that we, the Wizards of every school tap into to practice our arts.

A cantrip I myself became aware of initially was in my native Greyhawk ( I refer to the city state of course ). There it is common to accept coinage with a common phrase, infact a cantrip, which if the exchanging coinage, with the givers knowladge, is false the coin will phaze or drop through the recievers hand. A handy trick but indeed another example of how the accumilation of magic through every day transition is necessary. Gods forbid the customs and tradition of the old ways should fall into disuse least we also follow.

By extension the rivalry that exists between wizards and clerics can only be precieved as simular with sligh differance. My research has show these facts, which of course you are welcome to contest. Clerics channel their energy from their diety, who in turn gather their "mana" from their followers prayer (mainly) and a not insubstantial amount from the general cantrip use. The head of any substantial body of populace is naturally a Monarch. The Monarch cheif wizard is granted power from the monarch, though his subliminal favouritism of either his wizard of hhis god. Hence all wizards and cleric, whether they realise it or not are in competition for the same resources. A guild of Wizardry or indeed a clerical brotherhood can be measured in its success by the cumilative levels of achivement its members have. The upper level of this power is a quatant of the cantrip dividend. Hence a powerful patron must be essential to any guild or religion.

If you perscribe to the knowladge of the Primals Scrolls and their translation by Ramon Daarke you my be wise. If however you have views differing or you wish to further investigate the cantrip quotant tanslation. I shall not speculate on the specifics until my research is complete.

THE BOOK OF ANCESTRY, This tome is one of the oldest existing books in the realms today. It was penned by many different hands on pages made of black dragon hide and bound in elf skin. It is thought the authors were a mixed group of magic users whose names and identies are lost in the mists of time when this book was written. It contains a history analogue covering periods prior any contempory records. The Kingdoms, cities and even land marks talked about by the authors have long since crumbled and disappeared without a trace.

Of primary concern to human scholors is the accounts laid down before, during and after the creation of mankind. No referance is made to the origions of Elfin or Dwarfen kind leading us to conclude that this ancient tomd was once an accurate work tracking the history of this forgotten world.

It starts with a world much colder and savage than the one we currently inhabit and enjoy. Goblins it seems were the masters of this world and when the tombs accounts beguin their empire is fading fast and both Elfs and Dwarfs are emerging and expanding their horizons. Heroes and Empires rise and fall as the goblins retreat into the mountains and Elfs rise to rule the planes. It during their accendancey that they discover the primative and savage race we now know as Mankind. Humans are enslaved by what seem to be benevalent masters and man becomes civilised. As the centuries passed man and elf inevitably inter bred with half-elfs being the result. These half breeds were seen as abominations by the Elfin race who could not readily assimulate them because of their Human blood. This exclusion led to a war of birth right and btterness that echoes through the ages even today.

The Elfs , now undisputed masters of this unknown world plunged themselves into a holy war against their rejected kin. Humans, so long dormant and dutiful to their masters rose to claim equality of birth right that acceptance of the half Elf would bring. The Dwarfs long suppressed strove to recover their lost glory and from the texts we assume their role was to play one faction aff the other for their own betterment. Over three hundred years of warfare ensued until the Elfs prevailed. According to the book all Half Elfs, to a man, were slain in a terrible vengence exacted upon them by the Elfs. Human, now broken but no longer slaves fled before the Elfs becoming nomads and herders. However the Halflings who quitly paid tribute to their Elfin overlords sheilded small human communities as did the dwarfs because of their ability to use magic, given to them by the Elfs.

The Elfin Empires held sway over the land for a total of two thosand years. The longest na dmost glorious period in Elfin history. Their cities and fortresses where second to none in their magnificance. Mush is talked about in the book of inter Elfin wars and the achievments of this splendid civilisation and once can only imagine such opulance. But it is siad that one may build an throne from swords but you cannot sit on it for two long. An so it was. Two thosand years is a long time by the stimation of man, but in the racial memory of Elfs is seems shorter. Goblins, long since driven from the realms of light returned in numbers accumpanies by orcs, a new and numerous breed. The decended in vast hoards into the civilised lands and terrible war ensued. It was not for the Elfs to know yet but these hoards were driven to the Elfin Empires by the exiled humans whose long decades in the wilderness had nurtured a bitterness and savagery which even the hoards of Orcdom dared not face. With the prospect of chaos at hand the Dwarfs under King Thaldurr took the field and inflicted crushing defeats on the unsuspecting Elfs. As war was joined the Dwrfs expanded and built their kingdoms, careful to make alliances to protect themselves. After one hundred years the human tribes flooded back from their long exile led by a new Hero referred to as Arkoss. The books accounts of wars and blood letting are terrrible but eventually as it must, it ends. Humans, Elfs and Dwarfs share power by maintaining their respective realms. Half Elfs were accepted by humans mush to the detriment of the Elfs as their refusal to integrate ment they could not compete with the booming populations of more short lived races.
