School History

Gairmscoil na bPiarsach was opened by The County Galway Vocational Education Commitee in 1936. Since then there have been many changes made to the school.

At first there were only three rooms in the school: the Science Room, Home Economics room and a General Class Room. There are nine rooms in the school now including a well-equipped Computer Room where we designed this website.

This room had previously been a museum containing memorabilia of Padhraig Pearse. I wonder what would he think if he could see it now!

Night Classes are available in the school in a variety of subjects.

Up to 1987 this school had classes just to Junior Certificate level. Since that year it has a Senior cycle with classes to Leaving Certificate. This increased the number of pupils in the school to around 80.

One of our most famous pupils was Sean Mannion (the boxer) who was here from 1970-1975. He now lives in the U.S.
