Youghal through the Ages
The bright stars of Hollywood were conquered by the charms of Youghal during the mid 1950s.Luminaries such as John Huston and Gregory Peck descended on the town to film part of the movie 'Moby Dick' in 1954.Many of the local people had roles as extras in the film which still holds a special place in the hearts of Youghal people.

On the set of Moby Dick

Youghal has always been a popular seaside destination throughout the ages.In the 1950s and 1960s it was immensely popular with day trippers from nearby Cork City as well as holiday makers from all over Ireland. Many travelled by train to Youghal train station where they would disembark amid the hustle and bustle, excitedly making their way to the sandy beaches and cool salty spray. That world of sandwiches and splashing, screams and sandcastles was the highlight of many a familys summer.

Despite being a very historical town Youghal has also developed into a modern town with many shops, amenities and leisure facilities. It has become a satellite town of Cork City.A new bypass has lightened traffic through our historical streets helping to preserve our wonderful town.
