Our School

Múinteoir prepares her charges

Over the years as the school has developed, so has the teaching staff. We have thirteen permanent teachers diligently functioning in the school. Their influence on activities, inside and outside of school hours, cannot be overstated. The school curriculum and the Irish language take precedence, but throughout the years other aspects of Irish Culture have also actively been promoted. Appreciation of Irish dancing, music and our native games (hurling, camogie and football) receive particular attention.

Since the foundation of our school, we have had many memorable days, appearances in Pairc Ui Rinn in hurling and football finals, All-Ireland Finals in music, drama, set dancing and storytelling, participation in art competitions, quizzes, rugby and athletics.
While many fine victories and achievements have been recorded, the emphasis is firmly on the children's participation, and opportunity to perform. Mol an Oige (Praise the Young) is the school motto. This is evident throughout the school, not least in our many Christmas Concerts which have been the backbone of our activities since the very beginning.

In conjunction with the Board of Management, the Parents Council is actively involved in everything from fundraising to social occasions. A lot of voluntary time have been given to such activities by various people down through the years. Irish dancing, swimming and French classes are only feasible with the support of the Parents Council.
At present, the school is in a stronger position than ever. In addition to classroom teachers, we have two resource teachers, one learning support teacher, a secretary, caretaker and classroom assistants, all of whom contribute greatly to an improved quality of life and education in the school. We have come a long way since those first days with two small infant classes in Church Street, in 1983. Perhaps some of our pupils will aspire to lofty positions in various walks of life, and maybe if they take time to recall their first days of education in Gaelscoil Choráin, they may come back to visit. Beidh fáilte rompu.
