Tartan NTSC Region 0 DVD Review :: Page 1 /

.: Introduction :.

There was a time when (and I'll be brutally honest about this) the quality of Tartan's dvds weren't up to scratch. Many of you know the issues there were with their release of BR back in February '02: poor, overly dark picture; muddy 2.0 soundtrack; difficult to read English subs burnt onto the print. (A review can be read here). Did any of us ever expect them to return to the disc? To perhaps present a disc that would not only present the quality the film deserves, but one that would be perfect for english speakers. Have they delivered this time around? Is it a case of second time lucky?. Read on to find out.....

.: Packaging :.

This release features the same packaging as the previous release, but with some small changes. Instead of the tagline "Could you kill your best friend?" at the top of the cover, it now says "NTSC 5.1 Version". It also should be noted that although the cover says "For Progressive Scan Players" this does not mean that the disc won't play on regular dvd players. This phrase is slightly confusing and could have been phrased a bit better. The back cover omits the press quotes from the previous release and replaces them with a note on how this is an NTSC release. The final paragraph from the previous release on the description of the film is also omitted for some strange reason....as is a promo pic.

.: Disc Art :.

Not suprisingly, we have the same disc art as the previous release, but with the "Survival Program" replaced by "NTSC Version".

.: Menus :.

Same menus and menu design as previous release. Note that there is a new Special Features menu due to the fact that the Asia Extreme trailer reel is missing from this release. Read my opinion of the menus here
