Munster recruitment drive

A WIDESPREAD recruitment campaign aimed at young people throughout Munster is to be launched by Republican Sinn Féin.
Republican Sinn Féin vice-president Des Long said on November 24 that this campaign is being launched at a time when the traditional ideal of a united Ireland is under siege by anti-national forces.

Speaking at the annual commemoration of Allen, Larkin and O'Brien at the Manchester Martyrs Memorial in Mount St. Lawrence cemetery on November 24, Des Long said that while the aspiration to a new and united Ireland is now being decried and denounced, it is the only solution to the Northern conflict.

“The men we commemorate here today died for an Ireland free of British rule — that objective has not been achieved — today there are great forces ranged against the traditional aspiration to unity , but we say that real peace will not be achieved until the British leave Ireland — remember the words — Ireland unfree shall never be at peace.

“Today the aspiration to Irish unity is under siege and those who advocate a new and united Ireland are being demonised and imprisoned. However we in Republican Sinn Féin shall continue to say that the British presence is the root cause of conflict in our country.

“We are now in the process of launching a widespread recruitment campaign aimed mainly at young people to inform them of the alternative ÉIRE NUA proposals for a new four province federal Ireland.”
