Did you know? the name Mohill is derived from Maothail, meaning soft or spongy ground. Did you know that the town is officially Maothail as Gaeilge (tuiseal ginideach. "Mhaothla")? Mohill was referred to as Moyghell in state papers from 1591.

- There's a Maothail / Mothel in Waterford - I remember doing a U-turn on seeing a sign for Maothail in Waterford. I've a habit of reading the Irish names on signs. Here's an interesting question - for how long has the sign for Maothail/Mohill in Fenagh been misspelled Moathail and who cares? Answers on a postcard please!
