Michael Corcoran's Through streets broad & narrow contains all that a Dubliner, tramway enthusiast or historian could wish for, including maps and the fleet list. cover Trams to the Hill of Howth
By James Kilroy

This book is an affectionate tribute to the electric trams which once served the picturesque Hill of Howth to the north east of Dublin. Two tramway systems served the people of Howth: The Clontarf and Hill of Howth Tramway (operated by Dublin United Tramways) which closed in 1940, and the Hill of Howth Tramway (operated by the Great Northern Railway) which survived until 1959.
Both systems are described in this book, with accompanying maps of the routes. Both systems were 5' 3" gauge tramways and the GNR 'Hill' trams were especially popular with visiting enthusiasts since they were the last 'open-toppers' in the British Isles and the last trams to run in Ireland. Four of them are now preserved. The book includes a 32 page colour section showing this system in operation in the 1950s.
