The Beara Peninsula renowned for the warm friendly nature of the local inhabitants is situated on the South West coast of Ireland, stretching from Glengarriff to Dursey Head.

There is plenty to do and see in the Beara Peninsula, which is dotted with many lively, colourful villages including; Allihies, Ardgroom and Eyeries, each with their own unique history and natural beauty.

Foodwise, the Peninsula offers nothing but the best with a choice from luxury restaurants to excellent bar food, and of course, fresh seafood is the speciality of many.

For those who enjoy either a quiet drink or a more lively night out, there is something to suit all in the many Pubs and Bars located throughout the region. Each with a great atmosphere and friendly service, with many providing live entertainment during the weekends.

  • Shore Angling - numerous fishing spots are signposted on the Beara coastline.
  • Sea Angling - Deep-Sea boat or shore fishing in the Kenmare River or Bantry Bay.
  • Walking - on the well mapped Beara Way walking route.
  • Cycling - The Beara cycling route is well marked and bicycles are available for hire in Allihies and Castletownbere.
  • Beaches - Beara has many fine beaches located in Allihies, Garnish and Eyeries.
  • Dingy sailing and Kayaking. Boat hire and tuition available locally.
  • Meditation Dzogchen Beara retreat centre run by RIGPA A worldwide Tibetan Buddhist organisation. There are often classes available and daily meditations are open to anyone.
  • Archeological and historical landmarks; The Ogham Stone, the famous Allihies Copper Mines, the old Army Base on Bere Island and Dunboy Castle near Castletownbere, to name but a few.
  • The Dursey Island bird sanctuary and Cable Car.

Not only are there plenty of activities in Beara but Windy Point House is also excellently located to tour other places of interest in the South West of Ireland, such as Kenmare, Killarney and Bantry.
