"Alan Ryan was born in 1966 and grew up in Skerries. He moved to Wexford in 1998 with his partner Eimear, who teaches locally. He studied Geology at Trinity and has worked and travelled extensively in outback Australia. The Balfour Downs painting is part of a series inspired by a time spent camped at Balfour Downs Cattle Station in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia."

An infrequent painter in the past, I intend to devote considerably more time to it in the future.

Having spent a number of years working in outback Australia as a geologist, I was commissioned by Olympia Publishing in Perth to design and illustrate with appropriate cartoons and photographs a humorous calendar based on my observations of some of the quirkier aspects of Australian Society.
